The language of instruction at the Rabat American School is English, excepting French and Arabic language classes. Parents should be advised that some newly admitted students need “rolling back” by one grade level to successfully handle the RAS program or their new language of instruction, particularly in the case of older students.
English-speaking students generally are accepted on condition that they can meet registration requirements, that the school can meet their needs, and that there is space available in the appropriate class. Students may be counseled away from RAS if their academic record displays shortcomings that indicate potential continued academic difficulty.
Non-native speakers of English will be admitted conditionally upon study of their previous school records and the results of an English and/or native language reading and comprehension examination. In many instances, these students will be expected to take supplementary instruction in English during and/or after school. Secondary school students will be counseled away from RAS if their English level and academic background indicate that further studies here would not be successful.
All applicants for the secondary school will be placed appropriately, based on an admission tests and review of previous school records. In all cases, the appropriate enrollment of a student rests with the administration of the school. (Please see the RAS Policy Manual for additional admissions requirements). SPECIAL EDUCATION RAS does not offer a program for students who have come from self-contained special education programs or who have had a private assistant in the classroom at another school. The child study team and administration will determine whether a student’s special education needs can be met within the context of the school. When a student’s special needs are known, the parents are required to provide all copies of all reports and evaluations related to the child’s diagnosis.
The Board of Trustees reserves the right, through the administration,
to restrict admission based upon the lack of available space, qualified
teachers, or a suitable program to meet the needs of a particular
applicant.
