Introduction

Casa Espagna is one of only a few soccer clubs in Rabat. The facilities, such as the soccer field, are of good condition and quality. The soccer balls and goals are not new but they are in a reasonable state.

Location

Casa Espagna’s office and soccer field are in two different locations.

Applications are done at an office that is located in the district of Bir Kacem on Rue Zerhoun, house 55. The edifice is easy to recognize as the Moroccan and Spanish flags are hung right outside the building. There is a big parking lot right in front of the office.

The field is located adjacent to the “Complex sportif of Prince Moulay Abdullah” on the high way named Route Principale nr. 1. Once you arrive at the complex, continue to drive straight ahead onto a dirt path until you reach a soccer field.

If you cannot find the dirt side road, the complex security guards can provide you with directions. The security guards do not speak English; thus a French or Arabic speaker is necessary. A parking lot is also located right in front of the field.

Age groups, when they practice and the Price

In Casa Espagna there are several different age groups that follow different practice schedules.

Age Groups When they practice (day and time)

5-8

9-11

12-14

15-18

Wednesdays (4:00 pm - 5:30 pm)

Wednesdays (4:00 pm - 5:30 pm)

Saturdays (1: 30 pm - 3:00 pm)

Saturdays (1:30 pm - 3:00 pm)

Sometimes coaches organize matches against other soccer clubs. Matches can occur on several different days of the week, not only on practice days. For instance several matches can take place on Fridays or Sunday’s.

There are only men’s teams, but in age groups 5-8 and 11-12 there are a few coed teams.

The cost for playing at the Casa Espagna soccer club for one year is 1500 dirham. Casa Espagna is a Spanish club but players from all countries are allowed to sign up and become members. There are a majority of Moroccans playing there, but some European boys take part.

The players at Casa Espagna also play during Ramadan but not during the winter and summer vacations.

At Casa Espagna you usually play only once a week, either on Wednesdays or Saturdays, depending on your age group. However, there are sometimes matches against other clubs and therefore you might play more than just once a week.

How to join

To join Casa Espagna you must drive to the office and apply in order to become part of the club.

The secretary will ask you to fill out a form which consists of several biographical questions, including your full name, birth date, nationality, age, location of residence and phone number.

After you have filled out the form they will ask you to bring your birth certificate and two passport size pictures.

Once you have brought the birth certificate and the two passport sized pictures you become an official member of the soccer club and are allowed to play the next time there is practice. The secretary will have called the coach of your age group and told him that there is a new player and his/her name.

You do not have to sign up at the beginning of the season; you can also join later although there may be no more space for you in the team. Shortly before Ramadan begins is the best time to sign up.

Contact Information

The telephone number for the office of Casa Espagna is: 037 75 75 44. Casa Espagna’s office doesn’t have a fax.

Faculty

At the office there are two secretaries named Mohammed and Isabelle. Both speak French and Arabic, and Isabelle can speak a bit of English.

There are many different coaches at Casa Espagna. For each age group, there is at least one coach. None of them can speak English; they usually only speak French and often times Arabic.

Future Plans

The future plan of the Casa Espagna soccer club is to purchase a new soccer field. They now own only one field which all age groups have to split when practicing and playing games. This is very inconvenient as it does not allow the players to experience playing on a real size soccer field.

Casa Espagna's colors and Logo

Casa Espagna’s colors are red and yellow, the colors of the Spanish flag.

Casa Espagna’s logo is a yellow roof with a red triangle in it, supported by red poles which are standing on a yellow ground.
