Welcome to Rabat American School

Every year, I am impressed by the commitment that teachers bring to the classroom, the engagement and curiosity of the students, the leadership of the administrators and our board, and the active participation of our families. There is a deep sense of community at our school.

This has never been truer than in 2020. After finishing last year with three months of virtual school, we all set off on our summer holidays without proper ‘goodbyes’ and with no clear sense of what would be happening in the fall. The one thing we knew for sure? The RAS community wanted to be back on campus for the 2020-21 school year.

In late July we started preparing our campus for the return of staff and students. At first our efforts centered on Covid-19 mitigation protocols, and once we were satisfied with those, we turned to the faculty as they prepared for the eventual return to classes.  Just days before school opening, we were told that we had to offer virtual instruction, but that we could offer on-campus instruction if requested by our families.

On September seventh we opened the campus doors to our students. Roughly 90% of them chose to return for on-campus instruction, and we were thrilled to see and hear them in our halls and classrooms!

We are happy to say that student enrollment grew by 7% over the summer. Despite many students leaving for other countries, many more arrived at our doorsteps for the first time. As in previous years, we have a student population made up of roughly 28% Moroccans, American students at just over 22% with the remaining students, 50%, coming from 45+ other countries spread from around the world.

RAS curriculum is designed around the Common Core Plus standards from K-Grade10 leading to learner-centered pathways through a 4-year-high school diploma and 2-year college preparatory experience based upon courses within the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program framework.

I enjoy meeting with parents so you may be interested in attending our monthly  “Coffee with the Director” which will be held via Zoom for the foreseeable future.  We will be meeting with Elementary parents separately from Secondary parents in the early evening this year and you may expect a Zoom invitation a week before the meeting This is a time for us to share ideas and concerns as we work together to build an even stronger school.

Please take the time to visit us — on our website, on a tour, or in conversation — exploring our website and engaging in conversations will make it clear why our students, parents, faculty and staff are proud of what we are accomplishing.

Warm regards,

Sean Goudie
